What are the Uses of Ampicillin Sodium Hard Gelatin Capsules?


Ampicillin Sodium belongs to category of an antibiotic (specifically penicillin derivative antibiotics). This drug is indicated for the treatment of various kinds of infections caused by different types of bacteria’s like infection in bladder, infection in ear, infections caused by Salmonella, E. coli.

Mechanism of Action of Ampicillin Sodium

Ampicillin sodium hard gelatin capsules acts by blocking the synthesis process of cell wall in the causative bacteria, this result in either death of bacteria or inhibiting the growth of bacteria.

Side Effects of Ampicillin Sodium

Like all the drugs Ampicillin Sodium have also some common side effects like:

  • Blackness and swelling of tongue, increased level of eosinophils, rashes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, yeast infections.
  • Along with these common side effects Ampicillin Sodium has some serious side effects also like:
  • Anaphylactic reactions, decreased level of red blood cells, severe skin reactions, decreased level of platelets, peeling of skin and redness of skin.

Precautions with Ampicillin Sodium

  • If you are going to start Ampicillin medication, make sure that you are not allergic to the active pharmaceutical ingredient or any other antibiotics belongs to penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics group , as well as any of the other inactive ingredients used in the formulation.
  • Extra precaution should be needed if it is used in pregnancy or breast feeding conditions.  Consult to your doctor before initiating treatment with Ampicillin Sodium if you are pregnant.
  • Avoid the use of Ampicillin Sodium in breast feeding conditions, as Ampicillin releases in human milk.
