What are the Uses of CAPECITABINE TABLET?

Capecitabine Tablet is falls under category of anticancer drugs. It is indicated for the treatment of different specific type of cancers like:
  • In the treatment of rectal cancer or colon cancer.
  • In the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
  • In the treatment of Esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, hepatobiliary cancer, neuroendocrine cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, cancer of fallopian tube, peritoneal cancer and many more.

Mechanism of Action of Capeciatabine

When capecitabine is administered to patient’s body, it gets converted into fluorouracil. This fluorouracil helps in blocking the process of cell generation and DNA repairmen, as a result cancer cell will unable to grow and unable to multiply. Because cancer cells grow and multiply themselves very rapidly.

Side effects of Capecitabine

All the medicines have some side effects. So, capecitabine also have some side effects like:
Tiredness, weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, mouth sores and ulcers, feeling or being sick, redness in palms and feets,  abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, constipation, eye problems like conjunctivitis, hair loss, dry skin, itching, rashes, brittle nails, liver problems, joints pain, leg and back pain, bleeding from nose and gums, blood clots, skin blistering, red patches etc.

But not all the people will get these side effects.

Precautions with Capecitabine

  • Capecitabine medication should not be used during pregnancy and breast feeding conditions as this drug is very harmful for the developing baby. If you are taking this medicine, avoid being pregnant. Also avoid this medicine during breast feeding condition as it get secreated in human milk.
  • If you are starting this medication make sure that you are not having any allergic reactions with capecitabine.
  • If you are taking this medication, avoid any type of vaccination.
  • If you are taking this medication , do not take antacids just after the intake of capecitabine, wait for minimum 2 hours.
Capecitabine is mostly formulated in oral dosage forms like tablets.
