What Are Mechanism of Action of Carboplatin Injection?


Carboplatin Injection is a drug belongs to the category of anticancer drugs. This drug is indicated for the treatment of several types of cancers like ovarian cancer, lung cancer, head cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, CNS tumours, osteogenic sarcoma etc.

Mechanism of Action of Carboplatin

Carboplatin having tendency to slowdown or stop the cancerous cells to grow further and multiplying themselves rapidly. As a result cancerous cells get killed.

Side Effects of Carboplatin

There are several side effects of carboplatin medication, such as:

Low blood count (RBC, WBC, Platelets), nausea, vomiting, change in taste buds, loss of hairs, weakness, tiredness, fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea, infections, soreness of mouth, constipation, redness and burning sensation on site of injection, dizziness, difficulty in hearing, difficulty in breathing, confusion, blurring of visions, skin allergies like red patches on skin, inflammation, rashes, itching , chest pain, black stool, mouth sore, lips sore, painful urination etc.

Precautions with Carboplatin

  • If you are going to start the carboplatin medication, make sure that you have not any kind of allergic reactions with the API carboplatin and other excipients used in the finished formulations.
  • Strictly avoid any vaccination during chemotherapy.
  • Do not take this medication while pregnancy and breast feeding condition. If you are pregnant strictly avoid this medication as it is very harmful for your developing baby.
  • Also do not plan to become pregnant if you are already on this medication (applicable to both male and female).
  • Do not receive carboplatin if you are on breast feeding, as carboplatin is secreted in milk and harmful for the child health.
Carboplatin is generally formulated in the form of intravenous injections. In India number of pharmaceutical organizations like Affy group is engaged in manufacturing of anticancer injections in India, like carboplatin injection.
