What are Levofloxacin Tablets and Their Precautions?


Levofloxacin is a drug belongs to a category of quinolone antibiotics. This drug is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by different types of bacteria. It is not efficient in the treatment of infection caused by viruses.

Mechanism of Action
Levofloxacin acts by interfaring the DNA synthesis process, that results in the inhibition of growth of bacteria.

Side Effects of Levofloxacin

Along with therapeutic activities to treat infections, Levofloxacin have some side effects also like:
Nausea, vomiting , poor appetite , abdominal pain, stomach ache, kidney problem, abdominal pain, yellowing  of eyes, pale skin, yellowing of urine, chest pain, uneven heartbeat, dizziness, diarrhea, muscles cramp, bleeding etc.

Precautions with Levofloxacin

  • If you are going to start medication with levofloxacin make sure that you are not allergic with the active ingredient levofloxacin &  any other drug belongs to antibiotics category and other  inactive ingredients used in the finished formulation.
  • Avoid any type of vaccination or immunization when you are taking this medication.
  • Take an extra care and precautions in case of pregnancy and breast feeding conditions.
  • If you are pregnant do not use levofloxacin as it may cause harmful effects to developing baby.
  • Also do not take this medication if you are on breast feeding as levofloxacin releases in human milk.
Levofloxacin is mostly formulated in the form of tablets, syrups etc.
